World Class Fishing around Cooper Landing

World class fishing is synonymous with Cooper Landing, AK. Anglers experience pristine fishing. Hire a Drift boat guide to fish for sockeye and coho salmon, Dolly Varden and monster rainbow trout. Try bank fishing along the Kenai River. The most famous “combat-fishing” is at the confluence of the Russian River and Kenai River. Fly-out fishing will bring you to remote lakes and streams fished by few people. Go Deep Sea Fishing for Halibut in Seward, Whittier, or Anchor Point. Be sure to check the Fishing Calendar to be in the Landing at the right time to catch your favorite species.

The best place to stay for your epic fishing trip is at one of our cabins. We are open during the fishing season, Mid-May through Mid-October

Upper Kenai River Fishing Information

Silver Salmon (Coho)

August 15 – October 31

These fish give anglers lots of jumping action throughout the fall. Adults newly returning to fresh water are bright silver with small black spots on the back and on the upper lobe of the tail fin.

Sockeye Salmon (Reds)

June 11 – June 30, July 15- August 10

These are the lifeblood of the Kenai River. Sockeye salmon are prized for their firm, bright-orange flesh. As sockeye salmon return upriver to their spawning grounds, their bodies turn brilliant red and their heads take on a greenish color, hence their other common name, “red” salmon.

Dolly Varden (Arctic Char)

June 11- July 1, August 10 – October 31

Beautiful spotted fighters- perfect to send pictures home.

Pink Salmon (Humpy)

They are the smallest of the Pacific salmon. Every even year they return to spawn. Young pink salmon are completely silver.

Rainbow Trout

June 11-July 1, August 10-October 31

A favorite fish to catch and release. They are amazing fighters and fun to catch.

King Salmon (Chinook)

Spawn in the Upper Kenai River so fishing here is catch-and release for these Trophies.

Ask local guides to take you to the Lower Kenai River if you’d like to catch and keep a king.
